Plot: If you optimize for low loss, the system seeks statis, have you optimized for surprise, a system seeks complexity and the system towards the edge of chaos. The Sweet spot between total randomness and total order. Optimize the derivative, not the level. Reward the rate of reduction in surprise. The frontier moves and you chase the next pocket of compressible-but-not-yet-compressed structure. Intelligence, life, and learning are all the same act: converting chaos into order at the maximum sustainable throughput.
